From the Board: January 2018

Happy New Year!
BATW closed 2017 with a festive holiday party at Parc 55. President Molly Blaisdell greeted the guests accompanied by two rescue dogs from Muttville. After mixing, mingling and dining, several BATW members sauntered over to the Hilton San Francisco Union Square for the unveiling of CanStruction Project, a snowman structure designed of 1000 cans of food, all to be donated to the San Francisco Food Bank to feed 1,400 people in need.
We kick off 2018 with the publication of the second book of Taste of Travel: Food Stories & Photos From Around the World, authored by numerous talented BATW writers and photographers. Our January meeting will focus on our writers’ stories from the book. If you would like to read, please contact Stephanie Levin at And, thank you Jim Shubin for your gracious time and beautiful craftsmanship in bringing the book to print. If you would like a printed copy, place your order at the BATW publication tab, or download a free version.
Onward with the Board. We have three BATW candidates who were successfully ratified as Board members. They are John Sundsmo, John Williamson and Molly Blaisdell. All Board members will be introduced at the January meeting. (For a full list, click here.)
In February, the BATW Board will hold their retreat at Clear Lake. One topic on the agenda is credentialing. The BATW credential program is designed to expire after two years, requiring recertification. BATW is currently forming a credential program and refining the renewal procedure. One thing is certain, the process will involve evaluating your profile, which you should go ahead and update. You’ll find a link to the instructions for updating on the Services page when you first log into the Members Only side of Press cards are optional after you’ve been recertified. Look toward March for a final announcement on the credential program.
Membership renewal fees for 2018 were due by December 31st and, if unpaid, are now subject to a late fee.
Also, don’t forget to save the date, January 20th, for the first meeting of the new year at the San Francisco Mechanics’ Institute Library, located at 57 Post Street, San Francisco. The best way to arrive is by BART or Muni, exit New Montgomery. The meeting begins at 10 a.m. Officers will be introduced and after the announcements, the readings will begin.
