Presidents' Column — April, 2011

April is a month of changes and additions. As of April 8, BATW website editor April Orcutt turns over her baton to Carolyn Koenig, recently retired as executive editor of Smart Meetings. Carolyn brings more than 5 years of online experience to the position, and we’re excited to have her on-board. We will miss April and truly appreciate how she has built BATW’s website into a valuable source of member and industry information over the past two-and-a-half years.
This month we’ll also be asking members to sign up for their three-hour volunteer commitment. There are several areas to serve, including Programs, which needs help finding venues and sending thank you notes; the 2012 BATW awards committee, which needs help coordinating entries and recruiting judges; and Communications, which needs help writing and sending press releases. We’ll have a list of additional opportunities at the April 16 meeting.
Finally, VP of Communications Karen Misuraca is creating a BATW LinkedIn profile to increase our visibility in new media, giving us yet another presence online. Watch for the launch later this month. Meanwhile, be sure to “friend” our BATW Facebook page and start posting photos, articles, information and chatter about what we do best — travel!
