David Brower Center, Berkeley

BATW April Meeting
“Entrepreneurial Travel Publishing” – Presented by Lee Foster
David Brower Center, Berkeley
Sat., April 21, 2012 – 10 a.m.
Site for the meeting is the remarkable and new David Brower Center (www.browercenter.org), one of the “greenest” of modern LEEDS-certified architectural statements. The presentation will be in the Goldman Theater. Anyone writing on modern architecture and design will benefit from being aware of the David Brower Center, located at 2150 Allston Way in downtown Berkeley, near the University.
Host for the meeting is Visit Berkeley (www.visitberkeley.com). Visit Berkeley leaders Barbara Hillman and Dan Marengo will alert BATW members to the vibrant arts, culture, and culinary opportunities for travel editorial coverage on Berkeley. Packets given to attendees will encourage Berkeley-on-your-own exploration for the afternoon.
After the presentation, a casual buffet lunch in the foyer of the Brower Center will be catered by Back to Earth Organic Catering, the catering arm of the new and award-winning Gather Restaurant (www.gatherrestaurant.com). Gather is a tenant in the Brower Center mixed-use architectural vision and promotes sustainable, delicious food.
Following lunch, an optional tour will be offered of the Brower Center. Transportation note: The Brower Center is a 5-minute walk from the Central Berkeley BART Station. Exit the station and walk south on Shattuck, then toward the University on Allston. Public parking is best in designated garages with flexible time. Two options are the Oxford Garage, 2161 Kittredge St. between Shattuck and Oxford, and the Allston Way Garage at 2061 Allston Way, between Shattuck and Milvia Street. Allow a little time for parking and walking to the meeting.
The meeting agenda will be the usual BATW pattern:
10 a.m. meet and greet
10:30 business meeting
11:00 Lee introduces Berkeley CVB and Brower Center people, makes presentation
12:00 Buffet lunch in foyer, catered by Gather’s catering arm
1:00 Optional tour of Brower Center
Later: Explore Berkeley on your own, as you wish
